TREES FOR ENERGY FORESTS IN WASTEIANDS OF BIHAR, ORISSA AND WEST BENGAL

Abstract

The present communication deals with an assessment of forty three different firewood species used by the folk communities in the plains of Orissa, Bihar and West Bengal in terms of their various economic uses, growth rate, calorific values, coppicing ability and optimum requirements for growth. Cassia siamea, Parkinsonia aculeata,Vitex negundo, Pithecellobium duke, Holoptelea integrifolia,Trema orientalis, Acacia nilotica,Acacia meamsii,Acacia auriculiformis, PMSOpiS juliflora, Eucalyptus tereticomis and E globulus could be sorted out as the species more suitable for fire and use in energy-forests as well as reclamation of wastelands.
