Abstract

Mangroves so important to maintain ecological balance are destroyed unknowingly in the name of economic development. Hence, to identify reasons for the degradation of Coringa mangrove ecosystem, the impacts of changed land use pattern, such as cropping composition in the agriculture and the consequential imbalances and acute shortages in the societal basic resources base viz., fodder, fuel wood and timber in the hinterland area, over mangroves were analysed and some eco-economic and sustainable solutions were offered.
