EFFECT OF RICE MILL EFFLUENT ON SEED GERMINATION OF SOME CEREAL CROPSABANTI PADILAN AND SANJAT K. SAHLIAbstract ,work was undertaken to assess the physico-chemical characteristics of rice mill effluent and the effect of varmis concentrations (0, 25, 50,75 and 100%) on seed germination of three cereal crops (rice, maize and wheat). Theffluent was alkaline in nature (pH 8.0). The high value of TSS (530 mg/1) and BOD (450 mg/1) indicates pregee of large amount of organic matter. In 25 and 50% concentration, the germination percentage was more or less par with that of control (0%). The effluent at higher concentrations (75 and 100%) exhibiting inhibitory effei: Thus, the effluent can be used for irrigation only after proper dilution (50%). However, further work on grori and yield of crops are needed to corroborate the present findings.
