PRODUCTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ALKALINE PROTEASE FROM ASPERGILLLIS SP. AND ITS COMPATIBILITY WITH COMMERCIAL DETERGENTSKAUR SINGH NEHRA, AVTAR SINGH, JITENDER SHARMA, RAJESH KUMAR AND SANTOSH DHILLONAbstract Production of alkaline protease from Aspergillus sp., isolated from garden soil, was better in modified Reese's medium (pH 8.5) containing 0.5% casein, 0.25% glucose and 0.05 yeast extract. Maximum production of the enzyme occurred after 72 h of incubation at 35°C under submerged conditions. It was thermostable enzyme and was most active at pH 8.5 and temperature 50°C. The enzyme was completely inhibited by PMSF and EDTA, so it is designated to be metal ion dependent serine type protease. The enzyme was highly compatible with Vim and Avis retaining almost full activity and hence appears to have application in laundry detergents.
