RELATIONSHIP OF BODY WEIGHT WITH LINEAR BODY MEASUREMENT IN OSMANABADI GOAT

Abstract

The study was conducted in Aurangabad district of Marathwada region in Maharashtra. Data was collected on 1008 goats of different age groups where 338 males and 670 females. The mean body weight of male in five age groups (0-3, 4-6, 7-12, 13-36 and above 36 months) were observed as 6.03 ± 0.10, 14.63 ± 0.27, 18.68 ± 0.27, 28.63 ± 0.59 and 29.10 ± 1.15 Kg while that of female in the same age groups were as 5.64 ± 0.07, 14.32 ± 0.21, 18.64 ± 0.21, 27.58 ± 0.40 and 29.53 ± 0.74 Kg, respectively. The body length of male was found as 36.01 ± 0.40, 48.20 + 0.41, 53.92 ± 0.58, 65.05 ± 0.39 and 66.98 ± 0.85 cm while that female as 35.61 ± 0.28, 48.12 ± 0.30, 52.54 ± 0.44, 62.67 ± 0.27 and 67.19 ± 0.55 cm, respectively. The mean height at wither in male in five age groups were noted 40.27 ± 0.33, 51.91 ± 0.41, 57.97 + 0.86, 70.04 ± 0.49 and 67.94 ± 0.82 cm and was to be 39.39 ± 0.23, 50.20 ± 0.30, 58.97 ± 0.65, 67.56 ± 0.34 and 68.40 ± 0.52 cm, respectively. The mean chest girth in male in these age groups were recorded as 39.53 ± 0.32, 52.30 ± 0.26, 59.97 ± 0.36, 72.69 ± 0.48 and 72.36 ± 0.52 while that of females as 38.81 ± 0.22, 51.14 ± 0.19, 59.44 ± 0.27, 69.43 ± 0.33 and 72.57 ± 0.33 cm, respectively. Body weight is correlated with body length (0.28, 0.26, 0.26, 0.34 and 0.33), height at wither (0.27, 0.29, 0.29, 0.33 and 0.32) and chest girth (0.32, 0.52, 0.52, 0.57 and 0.77), respectively.
