IDENTIFICATION OF YIELD COMPONENTS AS SELECTION CRITERIA IN SUMMER RICE (ORYZA SATIVA L.) UNDER ALLUVIAL CONDITION OF WEST BENGAL, INDIA

Swarnajit Deb Barma, Indrajeet Prasad and B.K. Senapati

Abstract

Twenty rice genotypes were evaluated on the basis of 20 biometrical traits to determine the degree of association between yield and its component characters and their direct, indirect effects on grain yield in rice. Characters like plant height, panicle weight and panicle length was positively and significantly correlated with grain yield per plant. Path coefficient analysis identified number of florets per panicle, grain length, florets fertility %, panicle weight, panicle length and plant height as a key component in improving grain yield in summer rice as these traits found to be the major direct contributors to grain yield.
