Abstract

Quick development of vehicles and constrained stores of fossil fuel is trying to build up alternative fuels. Alternative fuels are usually clean compared with diesel and gasoline in the combustion processes. The usage of alternative fuels reduces exhaust emissions and improves the performance of an engine. The usage of biodiesel like edible and non-edible oils create problems for human needs and other necessities. So, research is needed to develop a biodiesel from waste oils. The production of biodiesel from waste animal fat is cheaper compared to other oils. This paper discusses about the impact of animal fat based biodiesel blends in comparison with diesel over engine performance and emissions. Experimental investigation conducted on diesel engine test bench at different loads with 3 animal fat based biodiesel blends in different proportions like B20 (20% biodiesel and 80% pure diesel fuel), B40, B60 and B0 (diesel). Results show that there is rise in brake thermal efficiency upto6% and reduction in carbon monoxide and hydro carbons emissions up to 33% and 41% respectively.
