FARMER PARTICIPATION MODELS IN CANDLENUT FOREST MANAGEMENT BASED ON LOCAL WISDOM IN MAROS REGENCY

Abstract

Type of this research is a survey with the descriptive qualitative analysis, aimed at analysing the model of participation farmer-based on local wisdom in Candlenuts forest management in order to be sustainable in Camba district, sub-district of Mallawa Cenrana, through informants of 36 people are from the government officials, community leaders, farmers, Candlenuts forest owners and tenants fitted with field observation documents and inspection documents of, then analysed with Participatory Rural Appraisal techniques (PRA). Results of this study was concluded that farmersÂ’ participation in the management of Candlenuts forest model can be sustainably enhanced and sustained through the implementation of the prevailing local wisdom and conducted hereditary, can be described as: (a) the participation of farmers in the planning role in decision-making through adequate institutional role, the local custom is carried out with consistent, and effective communication occurred, (b) the management of forest resources through access have been conducted is diminishing, land ownership increase farmers participation through their technical capabilities, (c) the inherited utilization of candlenut forests through the harvest, post-harvest processing system conducted in mutual cooperation, selling crops through traders and collectors on the market, and (d) there is an oversight in the management of candlenut forest through local customs and local culture.
