Abstract

Evolution of geopolymers in construction activities has put forward an option for completely eliminating cement products and annihilating the ill effects of industrial byproducts. Present study deals with study of Class C fly ashes in self compacting geopolymer concrete inculcating its pros and cons. Its unpredicatable nature in geopolymerisation and binary blended concrete was used as positive aspect in self compacting geopolymer technology to reduce the setting time and improving the mechanical properties. Class F fly ash has been replaced in increments of 10% by Class C fly ash to check the variation in mechanical properties of concrete. Sodium hydroxides and sodium silicates are incorporated to activate the fly ash in the ratio 1:2. Sodium hydroxide concentration is fixed to 12 M and ratio of fly ash/alkaline solution as 0.5. Curing was altered to external exposure curing conditions to match the cast in situ tropical climatic conditions. Results prove that blending of fly ashes improved fresh as well as hardened properties of self compacting geopolymer concrete.
